Business Plans and Mentors

Have you owned your business for a while? If you have, you likely have a business associate, a friend or a family member that you share information with about your business.

I have two good friends who allow me to share ideas, projects and other business opportunity information. One friend was a VP of Sales for a Property Developer. He worked all around the world, travelling to many countries just the same as I did working for Intel. He is retired which is great because he has so much to give and he is very interested in Asset Consulting’s projects.

Do you have someone like this to solicit feedback on your clients and projects? It can be very helpful when you need a sounding board. We usually get together once a week and share a beer over discussions about golf, cars, business and financing. I am very lucky to have his friendship and input… and it simply costs me a beer or two. This is a great deal! Find someone you trust who is retired, has the skills, buy them lunch once in a while and you have your Mentor.

A Mentor will listen and offer an opinion when asked. Of course your decision may be different than theirs however, that is the beauty of it. You get another approach to solving an important issue and your Mentor can bring up new ideas for solving an opportunity that you had not thought of.

Of course, you can always hire a Consultant for a fee. Asset Consulting works with a wide range of customers and we often start with a Business Plan and once trust is reached, you may find your consultant can fill some other holes for you. Either way, it’s important to have someone to talk with.
